Range Capabilities of Heavy Jets

The distinction between "Heavy" (Large Cabin) and "Ultra-Long Range" (ULR) is primarily defined by the 6,000 nautical mile threshold. Heavy jets, such as the Challenger 650 or Falcon 2000, excel at 4,000 nm missions, easily linking Europe with the US East Coast.

ULR platforms, however, push boundaries past 7,000 nm. They operate at higher altitudes (up to FL510) and cruise at Mach 0.85 to 0.925, featuring multiple distinct cabin zones to accommodate 12-16 hour flight times.

Gulfstream G650ER

A cultural and technical icon in private aviation. The G650ER extends the range of the standard G650 to 7,500 nm through fuel system modifications. Its defining feature is the cabin environment: 16 panoramic oval windows, 100% fresh air replenishment every two minutes, and a cabin altitude of just 3,290 feet when cruising at 51,000 feet.

This low cabin altitude significantly reduces jet lag, a critical selling point for executives required to perform immediately upon arrival.

Bombardier Global 7500

Challenging Gulfstream's dominance, the Global 7500 offers an unprecedented 7,700 nm range and introduces four true living zones to the ULR category. It features a permanent master suite with a full-size bed and an en-suite bathroom, complete with a stand-up shower.

The aircraft also debuted the Nuage seating architecture, shifting the paradigm of zero-gravity positioning for long-haul passenger comfort.

Dassault Falcon 8X

The tri-jet configuration of the Falcon 8X provides unique advantages. Beyond extended range (6,450 nm), the three engines offer superior short-field performance and steep approach capabilities, allowing this heavy jet to operate out of restricted airports like London City (LCY) or Lugano, where twin-engine ULRs cannot land.
